The importance of pest control in the maintenance of a healthy house

All of us have encountered various pests in our homes at least once. These include ants, cockroaches, mites, lizards, etc. The pests are not only a day-to-day annoyance but also pose serious health hazards. They can cause diseases like typhoid, salmonellosis, cholera, dysentery, and such. Pests like mites and white ants can also cause property damage as they chew away wood, affecting the house’s stability and structure. Kids and pets might see such pests and try ingesting them, resulting in them getting extremely sick and even getting hospitalized. The best way to avoid such unnecessary issues is to get pest control done in the house.

Why is pest control necessary?

As you might have read above, various pests cause various issues and diseases. They are a hazard and can cause diseases, worsen existing medical conditions, especially in people with a weak lung, like asthma or bite someone causing unease. 

  • Insects and spiders:

Seeing one or two flies and spiders is not a big deal, but constantly running into them, finding them in every other corner, and not getting rid of them with normal, store-bought repellents is a sign that there is an infestation in your house. The best practice is to call an exterminator as soon as possible to avoid any further and larger infestations and any diseases.

  • Rodents:

These are one of the major disease carriers. They carry viruses like the Hantavirus, salmonella, and other micro-organisms severe. They also chew on items like clothes and can destroy huge amounts of food and grains in a very short time. 

  • Wasps and Bees:

Though these do not cause diseases, they can get aggressive and sting someone. They usually fly in gardens and near flowers and will not hurt a human or an animal, but if provoked, they will sting in self-defense, even by mistake. These stings can be painful and may lead to complications and sometimes even death in people allergic to bee or wasp stings.

Some home remedies to get rid of pests

While there are multiple remedies to get rid of pests like mosquitoes and cockroaches available in the stores, there are few to get rid of rodents. So let us look at some home remedies to get rid of mice and rats.

  • Peppermint oil:

Most pests despise such strong smells; hence it can be helpful against several annoying little creatures.

  • Instant potato:

Rats will ingest the powder, which causes swelling in their intestines, causing them to die.

  • Onions:

Though these rot quickly and need to be replaced often, they keep the rodents away.

  • Hot pepper:

The most inexpensive yet effective way to keep rodents away. However, beware of pets or children ingesting or touching this.

  • Garlic:

The strong smell is quite pungent for rodents and other pests.

  • Clove oil:

Placing cloves or clove oil in every other corner will keep the mice at bay.

  • Ammonia:

Famous for its strong odor, it is sure to keep the pests away.
